Scenario Switzerland, Cameroon, Serbia accompany Brazil in the Big 16

Brazil already qualified for the round of 16 World Cup 2022 of Group G, but there is still a ticket up for grabs SwissCameroon and Serbia. What are the opportunities from the three countries? Check the calculations.

Brazil will have their last match to face Cameroon Saturday (3/12) at 02:00 WIB at Lusail Stadium. At the same time, the Serbia-Switzerland duel will be held at the 974 stadium.

With a collection of six winning points in two games, Brazil certainly progressed to the next round. They don’t need to lose to Cameroon to secure the top of the group.

Even if they lose, until Switzerland beat Serbia, first place will still go to Tite’s team. What if Brazil loses and Switzerland wins? Selecao can still win the group as long as they have a higher goal difference than Granit Xhaka et al.

What about the other three nations’ chances of qualifying for the round of 16? Below is a scenario they might go through.

Requirements for Switzerland to qualify for the round of 16:

  • Switzerland wins Serbia, o
  • Switzerland drew against Serbia and Brazil didn’t lose against Cameroon, either
  • Switzerland drew with Serbia with a certain score and Cameroon beat Brazil with a certain score, so that in the final standings Switzerland is ahead on goal difference from Cameroon.

Cameroon Round of 16 qualification requirements:

  • Cameroon beat Brazil by a certain point and Switzerland drew against Serbia by a certain point, so that in the final standings Cameroon leads on goal difference from Switzerland, or
  • Cameroon beat Brazil by a certain point and Serbia beat Switzerland by a certain point, so that in the final table Cameroon is ahead on goal difference from Serbia, or
  • If Cameroon beat Brazil and Serbia beat Switzerland, but Cameroon and Serbia’s goal difference and productivity are the same in the final table, then Cameroon’s disciplinary record (yellow card and red card) must be better than that of Serbia.

Conditions for Serbia’s qualification to the round of 16:

  • Serbia beat Switzerland and Brazil did not lose against Cameroon, either
  • Serbia beat Switzerland by a certain score and Cameroon beat Brazil by a certain score, so that in the final standings Serbia is ahead on goal difference over Cameroon, or
  • If Serbia beat Switzerland and Cameroon beat Brazil, but the goal difference and productivity of Serbia and Cameroon are the same in the final table, then Serbia’s disciplinary record (yellow card and red card) must be better than the Cameroon.
