Scatec, Norwegian Renewable Energy Company, Acquires Photovoltaic Park Projects in Romania from Emsolt Investment

The Norwegian company specializing in renewable energy Scatec, listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange and whose largest shareholder is the state giant Equinor (formerly Statoil), is in the process of taking over several companies developing photovoltaic park projects, owned in Romania by the Dutch from Emsolt Investment, reveals data analyzed by Profit.ro.

The transactions are carried out by Scatec through a legal vehicle registered in the Netherlands itself, Scatec Romania BV. It is managed by Scatec’s current country manager for Brazil, former vice president of development, Axel Holmberg.

The agreements provide that those from Emsolt Investment will continue to deal with the development of the Romanian photovoltaic projects of the local companies that the Dutch are ceding to the Norwegians.

Emsolt Investment has 7 photovoltaic park projects in Romania, with a total installed capacity of 460 MW, located in Dolj, Gorj and Olt counties.

The largest shareholder of Scatec, a business with an annual turnover of over 590 million euros and EBITDA operating profit of around 250 million euros in 2022, is Equinor, Norway’s state oil and energy giant, with over 16% of the shares. The second largest, with 8.89% of the capital, is Scatec Innovation AS, the company of the founder of the business, Alf Bjorseth, established in 1987.

Scatec’s significant shareholders include multinational financial giants, such as JP Morgan, Citibank, State Street, Raiffeisen Bank International.

Scatec specializes in developing, building, owning and operating renewable energy generation assets in emerging markets, particularly large-scale photovoltaic parks.

In the middle of the current year, Scatec was operating power plants of more than 3,100 MW in the Philippines, Laos, South Africa, Egypt, Ukraine, Uganda, Malaysia, Brazil, Argentina, Honduras, Jordan, Mozambique, Vietnam, the Czech Republic and Rwanda .

The company’s total portfolio of projects in various stages of development adds up, on the same date, to a power of over 12,000 MW, of which about 1,300 MW are already under construction.
