Scarlett Johansson says she’s done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a ten-year stint as Black Widow.

“I’m done” Johansson told Gwyneth Paltrow in a podcast. “The chapter is over. I did everything I had to do. Also, coming back and playing the character over and over again for a decade is such a unique experience.”

Johansson first played Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2 and last reprized her role in Black Widow in 2021, a standalone film that explored Natasha’s origins as a trained Russian assassin, as well as her relationship with sister Elena Belova (in performed by Florence Pugh).

The film had a hybrid release, debuting simultaneously in theaters and on Disney Plus Premier Access, after which Johansson sued Disney for what she said was a breach of her contract. In the end, the lawsuit was granted, and Johansson will still star in the film “Tower of Terror” for Disney.

Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts, the assistant turned soulmate of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, also stated that she is done with the MCU, but: “I’m not dead, so they can always ask me.” Johansson joked: “I think at some point you can come back. 100% it will happen. I can see it. They will never let you go. Get your wig out, baby.”
