Scarlett Johansson and Disney make deal: then no rec…

Scarlett Johansson and Disney have settled their dispute over the actress’s remuneration. Both parties have reached an amicable settlement, which means that there will be no lawsuit.

The American actress had a complaint filed against the entertainment company because Disney made the superhero movie Black widow not only in cinemas, but simultaneously on the Disney+ streaming service. According to Johansson, she missed out on income because her wages were calculated on the basis of ticket sales.

“I am pleased that we have resolved our dispute,” Scartlett Johansson said in a joint press release. ‘I am proud of the work we have done in recent years and look forward to further collaboration in the coming years.’

In the film, Johansson plays KGB superspy Natasha Romanoff – codename: Black Widow – who, clad in black spandex, tackles a dark conspiracy.

Streaming more important

Disney had reacted with heavy wording to de complaint. “A sad, disturbing, and heartless disregard for the horrific and long-lasting global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.” Now the tone is a lot milder. “I’m glad we were able to reach an agreement,” Disney chairman Alan Bergman said. “We appreciate Scarlett’s contribution and look forward to a fruitful collaboration on future projects.”

The dispute between Johansson and Disney is a symptom of a long-simmering conflict between actors and movie studios as streaming becomes more important as a distribution channel.
