Scanian food entrepreneurs advance to the final

During the first final of three, two Scanian companies with a focus on food and health managed to convince the jury in the fight for the golden tickets.

This year’s Young Idea is an award that recognizes young entrepreneurs with business ideas that improve society. The dolphins are arranged in Malmö, Stockholm and Östersund, and the final takes place on May 30 in Stockholm.

Just under a hundred entrepreneurs, investors and business promoters from authorities and the public sector gathered to network, share knowledge and view the evening’s pitch participants.

With five floors in ceiling height, Lebanese food from popular Laziza and Amira Brown at the DJ booth, two finalists were crowned in the first part of the Young Idea of ​​the Year 2024.

Outside the large glass walls it was cold, Malmö offered snow and sub-zero temperatures on Wednesday evening. But inside, the good atmosphere warmed the room when eight young entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to pitch their ideas.

– We see potential and energy in young entrepreneurs. When young people start companies, we see that they provide work opportunities for several others, said Thereze Woge, pitch leader from Almi.

Malin Winberg moderated the evening with a large dose of energy, humor and professionalism. She invited a number of committed and knowledgeable people on stage.

– You have to think through which intangible assets you have early in the process. If you come in late, it can be costly if you are a small player against big players, he said Johan Westberg from PRV – Patent and Registration Agency.

In the jury participated Fabian Bengtsson, Pontus Lund, Jasenko Hadzic, Margareta Wallentén, Jeanette Andersson, Eva Johnsson and chairman Magnus N:son Engelbäck.

– The purpose of the foundation is to benefit entrepreneurs at an early stage. The fear of failure must go away, said Fabian Bengtsson from Bengt Bengtsson’s Siba foundation and chairman of Företagarna.

The contractors Jens Thulin from Mylla and Hanne Pålsson from Vevios and Kristina Kockum from Business Sweden participated in a panel discussion that emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the various supports available at an early stage when developing a business idea into a profitable company.

The focus of the evening – the competition

All pitch participants were given 90 seconds on stage. Then they would convince the jury and the participants that they are worthy finalists and competitors for the prize money of SEK 250,000.

Local license Patricia Dianda, from Flavor bossbrought his business partner and also his young daughter on stage.

– We want to continue spreading joy and culture in Sweden, says Dianda.

– What wonderful energy you give, can you be cloned? How will the whole of Sweden be able to enjoy you? asked Fabian Bengtsson.

William Khzouz, Alga insulationis the recently graduated high school student from Örebro who manufactures sustainable insulation materials.

– The algae act as a fire extinguisher in the walls, and I promise – it doesn’t smell like fish. We want to become pioneers in sustainable insulation material, he said.

A slightly more short-distance participant was Daniella Grassi, AdvanSci research solutions, from Lund.

– We are developing a platform that will help and simplify for researchers in biomedicine.

– There are a lot of certifications and regulations to deal with in each individual country. We have a margin of 50 to 60 percent on the hardware and we have sold approximately 25,000 units since 2022, said Thibault Helle from Quandify who developed a new technology for water pipes.

– With the help of our tools, application manufacturers can achieve results in a tenth of the time. I hope that we will get a big enough lead to be able to dominate the global market, emphasized Daniel Falk, FixedIt Consulting.

– We receive waste that no one else can or wants to recycle and press it into sustainable building material, said Max Rosenberg, Recoma.

The architect Sofia Malmsten from Gothenburg presented his Parametric solutions.

– We have to do it right from the very beginning when we build. Therefore, we offer an AI that optimizes and saves time and money, she said.

Bakr Jahhan, Angry Camelcame all the way from Germany to pitch his idea.

– Imagine a world where we can enjoy our food without harming any animals or using eggs. We have solved it, he stated during his pitch.

That’s how it went

When Fabian Bengtsson presented the first winner, the applause hit like a wall through the hall. It was no less is Bakr Jahhan who got to step up and receive their golden ticket to the final. But first the hugs went warm among the family members who were there to support.

– An idea can start in a garage, but also in a kitchen, explained Fabian Bengtsson.

A company that has built a platform that can change a huge industry and at the same time managed to find a strong niche, was the justification for Angry Camel.

– A genuine entrepreneurship that has the potential to grow and creates joy in a dark world, that’s how the jury justified the decision to send Patricia Dianda and Flavor Boss to the final.

All pitch participants will get a place on Företagaran’s list of 103 young ideas, which is published in Företagaren magazine. In addition to that, there will be four places left when all the sub-competitions are completed, so there is still a chance to make it to the final on May 30 in Gothenburg. The next competition takes place in Stockholm on January 25.
