“It’s terrible”

It wasn’t just Sweden that had a difficult evening.

Norway will also have to qualify to stay in the A division of the Nations League.

At the same time, Denmark misses the Olympics after a snowy loss at home against Iceland.

Parallel to Sweden’s collapse away to Spain, two other Nordic heavyweights had a tough time.

Norway were beaten to win against Austria to avoid qualification to stay in the A division.

But instead of three points, it was a heavy 1-2 loss.

Austria took an early 1-0 lead, but in the 87th minute Norway had the chance to equalize from the penalty spot. But Marit Lund missed and instead Austria added two minutes later.

Norway thus finishes third in its group behind France and Austria and, just like Sweden, must qualify to stay in the A-division.

– It has been a tough year with varying results. There is a lot to work on, says team captain Ada Hegerberg to TV2 according to VG.

“Lump in the stomach”

For Denmark, it was not as bad, but they missed a golden opportunity to keep the Olympic dream alive.

As Germany played 0–0 against Wales, victory against defeat-prone Iceland was enough to advance to the Olympic play-offs.

Instead, it was a 0–1 loss after a late Icelandic goal.

Denmark thus finishes second in the group and thus does not qualify for the Olympics. Germany won the group.

– I feel terrible. When I heard that Germany had dropped points, I got a big lump in my stomach. It is terrible, says Janni Thomsen Bold.
