Scandinavian Airlines Sells Out Tickets for First Electric Flight, but Planes Not Yet Built

Scandinavian Airlines has started selling tickets for the first flights on electric aircraft. But it is not yet known when these flights will take place, because the planes for them have not yet been built.

This is reported TRAVEL RBC-Ukraine with reference to Euronews Travel.

Tickets sold out on the first day of sale.

On the first three flights offered to passengers, 30 seats were available. They quickly sold out immediately after the opening of the reservation.

But it is curious that the ticket holders will not know where they will fly from, on what date or on what aircraft, since the aircraft themselves have not yet been built. Low-emission, zero-emission flights will happen sooner or later, but not soon: SAS electric aircraft are still being designed.

The airline says it has “several zero-emission initiatives” so “no final decision has been made on which electric aircraft will operate which first flight.” It is also unknown when the flights will start. The airline says the first electric flight will take place in 2028.

How much will electric flight tickets cost?

Ticket prices are now the same and amount to 1946 Swedish, Norwegian or Danish kroner. SAS says the day and location of departure will be communicated to travelers via email after a decision has been made.

As of today, all the tickets offered have already been sold out, there are no empty seats. Travelers who still want to book a ticket can sign up for a newsletter from the company: if the sale is relaunched, customers will be notified.

SAS says it aims to achieve zero emissions from its aircraft by 2050. In 2019, they partnered with Airbus to develop low-emission, zero-emission commercial aircraft.

“Since its founding in 1946, SAS has been one of the pioneers in air travel, being, for example, the first commercial airline to fly over the North Pole to significantly reduce travel time between continents,” says Anko van der Werf, President and CEO of SAS.

Recall that from June 1, the Finnish airline Finnair will reduce the service in economy and business classes. We are talking about baggage allowances for ticket fares.

RBC-Ukraine also reported why one of the EU countries banned short flights.
