A well-known rapper was “dressed” only in a stocking that barely covered his penis. Other well-known artists, musicians and influencers wore transparencies and were half-naked. Everyone enjoyed a party in a disco in the heart of Moscow that caused a political earthquake in conservative Russia and much more in the midst of the war in Ukraine.
Attendees now see their concerts, contracts and even movies cancelled. The daring rapper, Nikolai Vasiliev, better known as Vacío, must spend 15 days in prison and pay a fine of about $2,100 for “gay propaganda,” according to The Moscow Times.

It all ended in a huge controversy. Russian independent media claim that one of the most scandalized turned out to be President Vladimir Putin himself. According to reports, videos of the party reached the trenches of the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin shouted: while soldiers fight, artists live “in another world.”
Yekaterina Mizulina, head of the Safer Internet League, a Kremlin-aligned lobby group that advocates for stricter rules on what can be said and done online, called for a boycott of attendees. “They live in a different world than the rest of the country. These types of meetings are a shot in the foot of the entire policy followed by the State. These people should be boycotted at the state level,” Mizulina wrote on Telegram.
What happened at the unforgettable party in Moscow
The celebration was organized last week at the Mutabor nightclub in Moscow by the well-known blogger Anastasia Nastya Ivleeva. The invitation suggested that attendees go scantily clad.
Among the guests were local pop stars Filipp Kirkorov, Lolita and Dima Bilan, as well as TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak. Singers and regular characters from state television entertainment shows also attended. Ivleeva herself, a very popular young woman in Russia, wore jewelry valued at about $230,000, in a country in crisis and at war.
But the most daring of all was the rapper Vacío. Videos that have gone viral on the networks show him dancing with just a stocking turned into a loincloth.

The reaction was brutal. Vacío was arrested and sentenced to 15 days in prison for vandalism and fined 200,000 rubles ($2,100) for “gay propaganda.” At first, he chose to mock the conviction. “Fuck it, I’ll work out and read some books haha, peace to everyone,” he wrote on his Telegram channel. But later his tone changed.
In a video released by the state news agency RIA Novosti, the rapper apologized and denied his support for the gay community. “I do not support the LGBT community in any way. I had no intention of promoting any propaganda. I condemn the supporters of the LGBT movement,” he said. In another video he apologized for “offending the feelings of many people during such a difficult time for our country.”
His attitude changed drastically after passing by the police station.

The retaliation was general. Several private sponsors broke the contracts of well-known artists present at the party. Several musicians had concerts canceled and some “media people” were deleted from state TV. An actor was eliminated from the cast of a film, amid reports that President Putin himself showed his displeasure over the scandal, according to Reuters.
A video went viral on the Internet in which one of the attendees gives explanations to the presidential spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov. The spokesperson did not want to comment on the issue when asked by several journalists, although he was forceful: “Let you and I be the only ones in the country who are not discussing this issue.”
The organizer of the event, blogger Anastasia Nastya Ivleeva, recorded several videos in which she apologizes for what happened at the party. In one of them she said that she deserved all the criticism, but she asked for “a second chance.”

But since then only bad news has accumulated. The main Russian mobile telephone operator, MTS, broke the advertising contract it had with it. In addition, the treasury opened an investigation against her that could lead her to spend five years in prison.

A Moscow court even accepted a lawsuit from a group of citizens demanding payment of almost $10 million for having caused “moral suffering.” They said that, if they win the case, they will give the money to the war veterans.
“Celebrating this type of event at a time when our children are dying in the special military operation (Russia’s euphemism for the war in Ukraine) and many children lose their parents is cynical,” said Mizulina, who has become the digital sword of the Kremlin. “Our soldiers on the front lines are definitely not fighting for this,” she said.
