Munich, October 2nd, 2024. The subsidiary of Munich Airport, Eurotrade, terminated a committed works council member and candidate for the supervisory board without notice in June 2024. A lawsuit was filed against this scandalous and baseless termination without notice. The first appointment will take place at the Munich Labor Court on October 7th, 2024.
“Instead of the Eurotrade company taking up the legitimate criticism of our colleague and changing the poor working conditions at Munich Airport, it is massively retaliating in its scandalous manner by means of a fabricated dismissal
existence threatened. The fact that Neli Birks was a promising candidate for a seat on the supervisory board and also consistently campaigned for better income conditions suggests that Eurotrade wanted to prevent further social commitment by dismissing her without notice. Such an aggressive attack on co-determination in a company makes the scandal even bigger,” said Dominik Datz, the ver.di Munich union secretary responsible for Eurotrade.
“Apparently the email address of the active works council member was illegally accessed to justify the termination. This is the actual data protection scandal at Munich Airport. What makes matters worse is that the employer, despite being asked to do so, does not fulfill its obligation to clarify this data protection violation. What makes termination without notice particularly absurd is that the employer itself regularly sends emails with data protection-relevant information to private employees
“Sends e-mail addresses of works councils,” said Hubert Thiermeyer, ver.di’s head of retail department in Bavaria, indignantly.
Immediately after the committed colleague was fired, a huge wave of solidarity and support began across the country. Ver.di is therefore calling for a solidarity rally on October 7th, 2024 from 1:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in front of the Munich Labor Court, Winzerstraße 106 in 80797 Munich.
The court hearing begins at 2:20 p.m.
