Rome, Italy / world today news/ The prosecutor’s office of the Italian capital and the Audit Chamber have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the conclusion of the contract between the Ministry of Culture and the owner of the Tod’s group Diego Della Valle for the restoration of the Colosseum, Italian media reports.
The contract, according to which Valle will allocate 25 million euros for the restoration of the famous cultural monument, was signed on January 21 last year. As soon as the fact of the signing became clear, controversy began in Italian society after excerpts of it appeared in the media. Media reports at the time said the owner of Tod’s had been granted the exclusive right to use the image of the monument for commercial purposes for 15 years. These claims were denied by the businessman, but doubts remained. The mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, called the investigation “madness” and said he was outraged that “this disgraceful operation is continuing, aimed at the failure of the sponsorship project that will allow one of the world’s most valuable monuments to be restored with the help of private means.
