Scandal in Norway: The princess’s son admitted to beating his partner – 2024-08-15 21:01:15

The ancestor of Norway’s heir to the throne, the eldest son of Princess Mette-Marit, has admitted to assaulting his partner, in a statement released today by Norwegian media outlet NRK.

Marius Borg Heby, 27, was arrested in Oslo on Sunday, August 4, following a fight the previous night in an apartment in the Norwegian capital. He is charged with bodily harm and material damage to the home of the woman he was having a relationship with. The young woman received first aid but was not hospitalized, according to her lawyer.

That weekend “something happened that should never have happened. I caused bodily harm and destroyed objects in an apartment, under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, after a fight,” the 27-year-old said in his written statement to public television.

Marius Borg Heiby claims that he is facing “psychological problems” and that he has been “fighting for a long time” to detox. He had already followed treatment and states that he wants to start it again.

“Drug use and my diagnosis do not justify what happened in the apartment,” continues Mette-Marit’s son. “I take responsibility for what I did and I will explain myself honestly to the police,” he added.

Hebi’s mother, before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, had a turbulent youth and used hashish and ecstasy, according to an unofficial biography of her. Her father was an alcoholic.

Marius Borg Heibi pleaded guilty and is ready to serve his sentence, his lawyer told TV2.

The palaces have not commented so far. Marius was born in 1997 from a brief relationship of Mette-Marit, who married Haakon four years later. As the heir apparent, he has no royal title and has not been assigned any public, official role.
