Keep the Change’s Kiril Petkov and GERB’s Zhecho Stankov quarreled in parliament. The occasion was the coal-fired plants and their closure. The former energy minister Temenuzka Petkova and the former finance minister Asen Vasilev intervened in the dispute.
First, at a briefing in the parliament building, GERB said that Kiril Petkov has pledged to close 83% of coal-fired power plants in our country, which threatens our country’s energy security and leaves more than 100 thousand jobless people.
A few minutes later, Kiril Petkov began a statement to the media, stating that today our country is among the top 10 countries absorbing payments under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

“The reduction of carbon emissions does not start from the Recovery Plan, but from their commitments (by GERB – note ed),” Petkov said when interrupted by Zhecho Stankov. The co-chair of the PP asked him who pledged for Bulgaria to reduce carbon emissions.
A conversation about each other ensued. Kiril Petkov took Stankov’s microphone away, but found another one. Petkov invited him to the rostrum next to him, and Stankov went on to list what citizens expected: toilets, free hot water, electricity. To this, Petkov replied: “Some people who ruled for 12 years, who spent 3 billion on the Turkish pipe…”.
Temenuzka Petkova and Asen Vassilev had to intervene. “We have uncovered all the corrupt practices and it hurts you a lot,” Vassilev said, addressing GERB.
When Petkov tried to take the podium again and continued his statement, GERB’s Stankov said: “A complete lie! The Plan says that 83% of the plants should be closed. We want to rehabilitate, all Bulgarian citizens do they want. People pay higher bills thanks to your energy policy”.
Petkov replied that PP will never support GERB and they don’t have bars in the drawers, and Petkova replied: “You have railings.”
