Sheriff’s Moldovans defeated Real Madrid in Spain and Messi made his debut scoring for PSG.
The European night centered the spotlight on Paris, which saw Messi score his debut for PSG in the victory of the French in the millionaires’ duel with Manchester City (2-0), but the Sheriff stole all the attention by beating Real Madrid, by 2-1. Jakhshibaev and Thill left Europe with their jaws dropped, Benzema’s goal of honor with a penalty worth little. Moldovans lead Group D, for which Shakhtar and Inter drew 0-0.
In Group B, that of FC Porto, Atlético de Madrid turned Milan around (2-1) in the last breath. The Italians scored first, by Portuguese Rafael Leão, but were reduced to 10 to half an hour, due to the expulsion of Kessie. The Spaniards charged in the second half and made a comeback in the final stretch, with goals from Griezmann and Luis Suárez, the latter from a penalty. Ajax, who lead Group C alongside Dortmund, remain in a state of grace, having defeated Besiktas 2-0 with goals from Berghuis and Haller.
In Germany, Brugge surprised Leipzig and moved up to second place, overtaking City. Nkunku advanced the Germans, but the Belgians turned the result in the first half, by Vanaken and Rits.
