Scandal between GERB and Radev over the NATO B9 meeting

The day when Bulgaria received a new government and GERB a new leadership was also marked by a scandal between the presidency and GERB. The reason was the president’s participation in a NATO forum. According to the former rulers, he has not shown enough that he supports the Euro-Atlantic orientation of our country. The head of state, in turn, described these comments as manipulation.

Daniel Mitov was the first to raise the issue, attacking President Rumen Radev for the official statement from the press office of the head of state after the meeting on NATO’s eastern flank in B9 format, which condemned Russia’s attempts to intervene in the region:

“A declaration was adopted at this meeting (…) we saw a press release that does not contain the spirit and heart of this adopted declaration. The Bulgarian president not only hid the declaration, he is trying to play some fraudulent game of” Here there is – here there is not “with the geopolitical interests of Bulgaria”.

“I will translate into Bulgarian – no wonder, hypocrisy is at the heart of these people. They are trying something they can’t – simultaneously flirting with Russia, while President Biden is speaking at this B9 meeting, you don’t have the courage to raise your fist and to say, “I do not agree with this declaration,” Borissov said.

Later in the show “Face to Face” on bTV Resigned Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva accused the president of unscrupulousness:

This means – unprincipled in my opinion. If you have a clear position, you say it for Bulgaria and abroad. You don’t say one thing there, another here. I very much hope that from now on Bulgaria will always have a clear geopolitical orientation in the future, regardless of which party is in power.

This is not just against Russia – this declaration clearly shows that there is a serious problem and tension and that what is happening in the Black Sea and what was happening on the borders with Ukraine, what is happening with Navalny, more we haven’t had a word from the Bulgarian president for a year, a word, it’s not a month “.

In response, the presidency stated that the head of state Rumen Radev had long ago expressed the position contained in the declaration of the B9 countries:

“That national security is an absolute priority and interference in the country’s internal affairs is unacceptable. The president has already called on the Bulgarian security services and the government leading them until recently for concrete answers to a series of spy scandals. Information from the security services has not yet reached the presidential institution. “.
