Scanavino: “Juve will still be the team with the highest budget”

The project guidelines Juventus do not change, the objective for the next few years will be to “maintain the balance between sustainability and competitiveness”. Yet from the words of the CEO Maurizio Scanavino release a Radio Serie AJuventus’ desire to return to the top of Italian football and beyond emerges strongly: “Juventus should remain the team that, in perspective, will have the highest budget to invest in the sporting part”. Speeches that involve future prospects but also interventions in the short term, with the January transfer window which sees the management ready to intervene to further improve the squad: “With the sporting part represented by Giuntoli and Thiago Motta we are working hard on having strong players that they can be part of a team and that they can make a difference by bridging the gap towards certain clubs, which yes have a collection of champions but are often difficult to keep together.”

The budget and the return to Europe

The shareholders’ meeting approved the budget with a loss of around 200 million euros, another financial year in the red for the club. Despite this, the prospects are good as regards the search for sustainability, as confirmed by Scanavino himself: “The real loss this year, between the lack of the Champions League and the previous one, should be considered around 70 million euros, in recovery of over 50% compared to the previous year. The trajectory is also very good for the future even if clearly there are elements of unpredictability linked to some sporting performances and the tail end of some elements of the past.”

The search for sustainability

Among the elements that have had the greatest impact on reducing red and creating foundations for the future, there is certainly one the lowering of the wage bill and the cost of the black and white rose. A significant decrease obtained through the renegotiation of existing contracts but also with a rationalization of the number and cost of the players available: “We came from a particular situation in which the sum of the salary and amortization items was particularly high. Looking ahead, despite having reduced and still doing some fine tuning, Juventus should remain the team with the highest budget to invest in the sporting part. This guarantees great competitiveness, then obviously you have to make the right choices, the right market and also have a bit of luck”.

How much does the Allianz Stadium affect the budget

A fundamental voice is represented by the revenue from the stadium: “I found a very positive situation from the point of view of infrastructure, assets, brand and merchandising. From these bases we are continuing, in my opinion we have done an excellent job on the stadium: last year in fact the historic record of takings was recorded net of European competitions and this year we will probably manage to set the historic record including European competitions. The stadium is an extraordinary asset for us.” And Juve aims to increase revenues.

The Club World Cup and the return to the ECA

If the economic aspects are fundamental, the sporting ones were also taken into consideration by Scanavino. Sport and sports politics, given that on the pitch Juventus managed to gain the pass for the Club World Cup while behind the desk the return to the aegis of the ECA was ratified: “We believe the Club World Cup is a very positive opportunity for the club and for the players to gain experience and have a global showcase. The opportunity derives from the visibility that Juventus can have all over the world, we think that this first edition can already have a great meaning, bringing with it, we hope, a positive amount of revenue: on this point we are in strict negotiations with FIFA together with the others However, the ECA teams should now be on their last legs.” There will also be room for discussions on the new shirt sponsor which it should replace Save the Children: “We have several ongoing negotiations at a fairly advanced stage, so we imagine that by the end of the season we will have a commercial shirt sponsor.”
