Scam at music festivals: they investigate a young man for selling fake tickets on WhatsApp

The Civil Guard investigates a young man, 25 years old, accused of up to 14 crimes of fraud in music festivals through the Internet through the sale of tickets. Also for sports and cultural shows.

The investigation began at the beginning of last January after the Civil Guard detected several complaints made for fraud related to the sale of tickets through social networks. The first investigations revealed that all these scams had been carried out in a similar way and that it was to offer tickets at a considerably low price.

In this way, it managed to attract the attention of the users of the platform with whom it maintained communication through the WhatsApp messaging application and through which it requested the payment of the tickets through Bizum. Once the economic benefit was obtained, he blocked all communication with his victims.

The progress of the investigation determined that there were 14 people scammed in several Spanish provinces: Córdoba, Seville, Cádiz, Madrid, Cantabria, La Coruña, Burgos, Salamanca, Huesca, Vizcaya, Albacete and Valladolid. The agents managed to identify the alleged perpetrator of the events, a 25-year-old man, a resident of León.

During the operation, the means used by the alleged scammer have been investigated, including four bank accounts and a mobile phone. These ICT resources were used to collect the payments requested from the victims, using the instant mobile payment through the Bizum application.

From the @ Team of the Civil Guard of Córdoba, it is recommended that during the purchase process over the Internet, they do so through the official channels of the portals dedicated to the sale of tickets, since, if not, they are exposed to suffer this type of scam. In addition, citizens are appealed so that if they have been victims of a similar crime, file a complaint so that this type of act does not go unpunished, regardless of the amount swindled.

The proceedings instructed by the Civil Guard of Córdoba have been made available to the judicial authority.
