People were not injured. The damage is in the five-digit range.

The fire brigade and police had their hands full in large parts of the state in the early hours of the morning.

Local public transport had to be partially restricted due to the force of nature. Due to fallen trees, points malfunctions and power failures, there were, for example, significant restrictions in bus and rail traffic around Karlsruhe.

The first damage was reported in the dark. For example, the police in Pforzheim received reports of numerous damaged cars. At first, the police could not say whether people were injured.

In response to the destructive force of the storm, both the Baden Wildlife Park and the main cemetery in Pforzheim remained closed.

In the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, paths and roads were partially inaccessible due to fallen trees. At Hinterzarten, a tree fell on the overhead line and a train. Fire and rescue services were on duty, according to initial information, nobody was injured.

At Phillippsburg, the trailer of a truck overturned, the police said. The team was on the way to Bruchsal on Thursday morning when the trailer was hit by a strong gust of wind on a bridge and thrown to the side.

In addition to the Black Forest, the north of Baden-Württemberg was particularly affected. The storm also raged in Mannheim and ensured that several trucks crossed the Rhine bridge. Fire brigade, police and rescue workers were on duty.

In the city, people were unable to visit parks or cemeteries on Thursday. Funerals took place. “We ask visitors to funeral services not to leave the main paths because of the threat of branches and trees breaking,” said the town hall.

In the city area, the fire brigade had been on the move since the early morning to repair storm damage. Tiles had been blown from roofs, fallen trees and broken branches made for a lot of work.

Due to the storm, the zoo in the neighboring city of Heidelberg was also closed on Thursday as a precaution. “We don’t want to take any chances,” said the zoo.

The German Meteorological Service (DWD) had warned of gale-force gusts in the mountains and storm gusts in the northern parts of the country on Thursday. Thunderstorms could occasionally occur, it said. In the mountains, gale-force gusts of up to 120 kilometers per hour were expected.

The reason for this was an extensive low pressure area over northern Europe. The wind should weaken towards evening.
