In the second round of the DFB Cup, SC Freiburg will have to play away again, but at least they won’t go far. Opponent is VfB Stuttgart.
Shortly before Christmas (December 22nd or 23rd), the first division team from Breisgau will play at league competitor VfB Stuttgart. That was the result of the draw that took place on Sunday evening as part of the “ARD Sportschau”.
Both teams have met twice this season. In the league game on the first day of the match, the sports club celebrated a 3-2 win against the Swabians. It was the only point game success of coach Christian Streich’s team this season. A few weeks later – during a break due to international matches – the Stuttgart team then won a test match in Breisgau 3-0.
In the first round of the DFB Cup, SC Freiburg prevailed 2-1 at third division Waldhof Mannheim in mid-September. VfB Stuttgart also won a third division club – namely 1-0 at Hansa Rostock.
The top lot of the second round caught second division Holstein Kiel. The North Germans, who defeated the second South Baden representative, upper division Rielasingen-Arlen, 7-1 in round one, meet at home with Champions League winners Bayern Mnchen.
