Benny Wirth reached out three times. First with a penalty kick (6th), then with a shot (12th) and then again with a penalty kick (19th). In this action, also forfeited to the VfL goalscorer, Grefrath’s Christopher Claeren saw the red card. It was the SSV captain’s second dismissal this season. To everyone’s surprise, however, the home side were in full swing afterwards and came on through Gerrit Lenssen (35′) and Niklas Schmitz (44′). The SC Schiefbahn, who had lost their staff and only had two players left on the bench, lost 0:3 (0:2) to Fortuna Dilkrath because of the lack of alternatives. Before the game, after his substitution (74th) and after the final whistle, the hosts said goodbye to their long-time player Christian van de Flierdt. In terms of his job, he has a relationship with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, because as one of 14 greenkeepers he ensures that the lawn in Borussiapark is ideal. It then fitted perfectly into the script that the Dilkrathers were awarded a penalty kick after just five minutes, which the 40-year-old converted. Jannis Ungerer headed in to make it 2-0 (34′), then Marvin Holthausen scored (72′).
