Both cooperation partner SC Rist Wedel and the JBBL of the Hamburg Towers eV are successfully organizing their last home game of 2023. The Risters will be challenged one last time before the turn of the year against newly promoted Ibbenbühren on Saturday. The game operations for the young talents are currently suspended.
That was convincing! In the last home game of the year, cooperation partner SC Rist Wedel achieved an 84:64 home win over the Iserlohn Kangaroos – “Merry Ristmas” as a basketball festival before the festival once again lived up to its name. Not for the first time in the current season, the convincing work in the fight for the balls bouncing off the basket and the ring as well as the defense formed the basis for the seventh success. The “king” among the baskets was once again the American Camron Reece, who grabbed eleven rebounds and scored 18 points with a field throw hit rate of 89 percent. Three blocks rounded off his good performance.

Reece wasn’t the only Wedeler who knew how to convince. “It was a good team performance,” said Hamed Attarbashi. “We led from the start, weren’t even behind and made a lot of changes. “It was fun,” said the head coach happily. Leif Möller (15), Noé Bom (11) and Darren Egbe (10) also scored double figures.
The Risters will take to the stage one last time before the turn of the year on Saturday (7 p.m.). Then the Schleswig-Holstein team will be guests at the bottom of the table in Ibbenbüren. Last weekend, the newcomer – who had to do without several top performers – achieved a highly noticed away win in Itzehoe.
JBBL: Heading into the new year as league leaders
The JBBL of the Hamburg Towers eV was also able to play its last home game of the year successfully. However, the game against Paderborn was much closer – in the end the scoreboard showed 89:85. “Compliments to my boys, who showed a lot of heart to make a game successful under difficult conditions and despite many failures,” summed up Jan Eichberger, who also paid tribute to the Baskets for their extraordinary energy performance.

The Hamburg head coach was particularly impressed by the team performance. Every player provided important input for the second main round success. Even if this is not always reflected in the statistics sheet. “It was very nice to see how the guys who weren’t playing brought more energy from the bench,” says Eichberger, describing the team feeling.
At the same time, the head coach still saw numerous areas in which his protégés, as a team and individually, should take the next step in their development as the season progresses. First of all, the young people from Hamburg will have a few days off from training during the Christmas season. In preparation for the restart of the main round after the turn of the year, the JBBL will take part in the ALBA Berlin New Year’s tournament from January 3rd – 5th.
