Potsdam. During the big upheaval, SC Potsdam is relying on a familiar face. As the German volleyball runner-up announced on Tuesday, he has signed Antonia Stautz again. For them it’s basically the return from the return. In 2017, the outside attacker moved from Schwarz-Weiß Erfurt to Potsdam, stayed for four years, then went back to Erfurt to now play for the SCP again.

“SC Potsdam has developed further in the last two years and I have also taken a step forward,” says the 29-year-old, who has now made it into the German national team. Stautz has completed the first week of the Nations League with the “Butterflies” – three wins from four games in Japan.

At Schwarz-Weiß Erfurt she may have lost perspective. After two tenth places in the last two seasons, the Thuringian club has decided to voluntarily move down to the new 2nd Bundesliga Pro in order to consolidate itself there economically. “We remained in contact with her after she moved to Erfurt,” says SCP board member Toni Rieger. “I’m happy that she’s now got the fever for SC Potsdam again.”

Riccardo Boieri: “She has matured as a personality”
When Stautz first came to the Brandenburg club, she initially mostly acted as a supplementary player. However, thanks to her strong serves, she was often substituted especially for this task. Over time, the native of Lower Saxony developed greatly, becoming a regular player and even captain. But because the playing times decreased again, also due to injuries, Stautz decided to move to Erfurt. She has been named the most valuable Black and White player in a league game four times in each of the past two years. “She has good skills in the backfield and in front of the net. She has matured as a personality, can fill different roles in the team and has a strong serve,” says Riccardo Boieri, who is promoted from assistant to head coach in Potsdam.

After diagonal attacker Tara Taubner (Red Star Belgrade), Antonia Stautz is the second SCP newcomer for next season. The club announced eleven departures. Anastasia Cekulaev, Veronika Djokic (both middle block), Libera Sarah Stiriz and Laura Emonts, who followed Stautz as captain and also plays in the wing attack, remain from last year’s squad. Rieger emphasizes that it is a position in which “four good players” are needed over the course of the season.
