“Adriano has already proven his sporting value in the highest German leagues many times. With him we gain a powerful and dangerous attacker who further optimizes our possibilities in the squad,” enthuses manager Benjamin Weber in the club’s official statement.
Powerful and dangerous in front of goal – that’s exactly what applies to Marvin Pieringer and Felix Platte. But the future of the two is uncertain and that is why the East Westphalians had to act here. As is well known, Pieringer’s loan contract with FC Schalke 04 expires on June 30th. The 23-year-old would like to stay with the SCP, but Weber can only now start negotiations with the Bundesliga relegated and future league competitors: According to a report by “Kicker”, the new manager will be presented today with André Hechelmann. The former chief scout of Schalke is to succeed Rouven Schröder in planning the squad.
Pieringer wants to stay, Platte too. The 27-year-old is still under contract with the SCP until 2025 and is – if he is fit – an extremely dangerous second division striker. Platte proved this at the start of the past series (six goals, four assists in eight games). In the second half of the season, however, his susceptibility to injury became clear again: he was out nine times, was substituted on five times and was only in the starting XI three times. The yield was low with only one hit left.
Nevertheless, Fortuna Düsseldorf is said to be interested and wants to use an exit clause (500,000 euros transfer fee) in Platte’s contract (runs until 2025). However, the rival from the Rhine also has a need for action. With Dawid Kownacki (Werder Bremen) and Rouwen Hennings (no new contract), two offensive players are leaving the club. Weber himself has not yet received an offer, but the 40-year-old told WESTFALEN-BLATT two weeks ago: “We have to get Felix fit, then he will be a very important striker for us.”
That should also be Adriano Grimaldi. The 1.88 meter tall attacker has a lot of experience and can look back on six Bundesliga appearances, 33 second division matches and 247 third division games. In the third division season that just ended, Grimaldi scored nine times in 33 league games. In the end, 1. FC Saarbrücken was just one point short of direct promotion to the 2nd division.
The “goal prince” Grimaldi had recently fought back after tearing a muscle bundle and was one of the difference players. He still wanted to leave the former club of Paderborn coach Lukas Kwasniok. Main reason: Grimaldi’s family lives in Göttingen.
In addition to the attackers Grimalidi and Kinsombi, the SCP has already signed defenders Laurin Curda (21) from the regional league club TSG Balingen and Mattes Hansen (Schalke 04, U19). Homegrown Dawyn-Paul Donner (central defender, U21) is also switching to the professional squad. The loan deal for all-rounder Maximilian Rohr (Hamburger SV) ended. The 27-year-old signed a two-year contract in Paderborn with an option for a further twelve months.
