SC Freiburg’s Search for an Offensive Player Continues: Coach Christian Streich Reveals the Challenges

Freiburg (dpa) – The search of the Bundesliga soccer club SC Freiburg for a suitable, additional offensive player continues to be difficult. “We don’t do any crazy things, absolutely not,” said coach Christian Streich before the first competitive game of the new season in the DFB Cup against the Baden Oberliga club SV Oberachern on Sunday (3:30 p.m. / Sky). “We have opportunities and if we’re convinced, then we’ll do something.”

After the end of Nils Petersen’s career and Woo-yeong Jeong’s move to VfB Stuttgart, Streich still lacks alternatives at the top. Especially since the newcomer Junior Adamu, signed from Salzburg, has not yet been able to train with the team due to an injury. “It hurts because we haven’t seen him on the pitch yet,” said Streich. “He’s a really nice guy and likes to laugh – that’s good for us.” Improvement is gradually in sight, according to the coach.

“Let’s see if anything else happens. Maybe one or two more players will be added. If not, then we’ll start the season like this,” said Streich, who says about the problems with the search: “There are limits. And We don’t cross certain limits because it would be too dangerous and too risky. We stay true to ourselves.”
