SC Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter: Coach Christian Streich on His Potential Return to German National Team

Freiburg (dpa) – If Matthias Ginter continues to perform consistently at Bundesliga soccer club SC Freiburg, his coach Christian Streich believes he will soon be a candidate for the German national team again. “For him it’s about him being good on the pitch and playing really good games. Then those in charge will see that and take him back,” said Streich on Thursday. “That would be my idea of how things should go and I assume that’s how it would happen. Then we would all be happy – the national team and us too.”

Central defender Ginter played his last international match in June against Ukraine (3:3). The 29-year-old did not play in the following two games in Poland (0-1) and against Colombia (0-2) and has not been called up since. Ginter played in 16 matches for the sports club this season.

Streich did not want to comment on the situation of the extremely stumbling DFB team. “Everyone says something about it anyway, so I’m just missing,” he said. In the two most recent international matches, Germany suffered two further setbacks against Turkey (2:3) and in Austria (0:2) on the way to the European Championship in their own country next year.
