“SC Freiburg’s Christian Günter Set to Break Bundesliga Record with 300th Game – Coach Christian Streich Praises Captain’s Dedication”

Freiburg (dpa) – Coach Christian Streich from SC Freiburg praised his captain Christian Günter before his possible anniversary in the game at 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday (3.30 p.m. / Sky) in the highest tones. “He kept going and pushed his limits with everything – and the end has not yet been reached,” said Streich about the national player, who could play his 300th game in the Bundesliga in the capital. “It all speaks for him, and a little bit for the club.”

Günter would be the first Freiburg professional to break this mark. Overall, there are only five other active players who have played more than 300 Bundesliga games for their current club, as “Kicker” already calculated this week: Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer for FC Bayern Munich, Mats Hummels for Borussia Dortmund , Patrick Herrmann for Borussia Mönchengladbach and Maximilian Arnold for VfL Wolfsburg.

For Streich, that was “not to be expected” from Günter after the left-back was “not a regular player” in his second B youth year, and even when he was one of the professionals, sometimes “not even in the second team right from the start played”. The coach is all the more impressed by the further development of the now 30-year-old.
