SC Freiburg – Streich hopes for structure and conviction again

The wild 3: 3 at Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday was in some ways reminiscent of SC Freiburg’s upcoming game against Bayer Leverkusen. Here, too, the SC had significantly fewer chances, but thanks to luck, a good keeper and his own efficiency, he drove back to the Breisgau with one point. One or three points are also possible on Friday (8.30 p.m., LIVE! At kicker.de).

“Maybe we’ll create something special”: Christian Streich hopes for points against Leverkusen.

“We have created all goals in Frankfurt with structure and conviction, we also need that against Leverkusen”, Streich is convinced. Against the Rhinelanders, “extremely strong football and extremely successful”, his team “will not get as many chances to score,” the coach assumes: “We have to play with the same conviction as in Frankfurt.”

Defensively, however, there may be some improvements compared to the turbulent game during the week. With such a risk-taking setup, small decisions often make a big difference. “If you have certain situations and do not have enough ball security, everything is open. If we had made better decisions, we would have encountered significant problems more often with a Frankfurt Pass.” Due to the many individual mistakes, however, Eintracht came with a multitude of options. That should not be repeated against Leverkusen: “We need more compactness and must not allow so many chances from own ball possession.”

Haberer is still working on ankle problems

It is possible that there will be some tactical and personnel changes at the end of the English week, but Streich and his coaching team are not sure yet. “There are several variants and it may well be that we change positions.” Janik Haberer, who continues to suffer from ankle problems, is probably not an option. Against Union Berlin before the Corona break, Robin Koch acted in front of a chain of three on the six, this measure is certainly an option again, even if Leverkusen has less physique than the opponent at the time.

Six games before the end of the season and with an eleven point lead over 16th place, the look down is no longer there, even in Freiburg. “I am very happy that we have 38 points. Now we can free ourselves, move forward and without the pressure,” says Streich: “If you get one against Leverkusen, no one will be surprised. Maybe we can do something special.”
