SC Freiburg Coach Christian Streich Disappointed with Defeat Against Borussia Dortmund: Post-Match Reactions and Key Moments

Freiburg (dpa) – Coach Christian Streich from SC Freiburg was very disappointed after the 2:4 (2:1) defeat against runner-up Borussia Dortmund. “The result doesn’t correspond to how the game went. It’s brutal for us because we were better than this result. But we have to live with it,” said the 58-year-old after the game on Saturday. “It hurts so much that you lose this game like that.” He needs a day to process it.

Two weeks after the 5-0 defeat at VfB Stuttgart, Freiburg suffered their next setback in the Bundesliga despite a decent performance. A key scene was certainly the red card against SC professional Nicolas Höfler after a foul on Marcel Sabitzer (81st), as a result of which Dortmund scored twice more and won the game.

Streich did not blame referee Tobias Stieler, who had first shown a yellow card and then sent Höfler off the field after consulting the video assistant – on the contrary. “They have pressure, they only have a short moment to say it,” said Freiburg’s coach about the referees. “Mr. Stieler made the right decision – no matter how bad it is for us,” said Streich. “He whistled correctly and well.”

Shortly after the game, Streich was unable to say anything about the condition of the injured strikers Michael Gregoritsch and Lucas Höler. On Thursday, Freiburg will play in the Europa League at Olympiakos Piraeus in Greece.
