Freiburg (dpa) – SC Freiburg will have to be without its captain Christian Günter for a long time. Because of an infection in the open forearm fracture he originally suffered, the 30-year-old full-back “needs long-term medical and surgical treatment,” the Bundesliga soccer team announced on Friday. Recovery will therefore take time.
The eight-time national player Günter suffered a forearm fracture in preparation for the season and then fractured his right arm again in the week after the Bundesliga opener in August. He has only made two competitive appearances this season so far. Most recently, Maximilian Eggestein and Vincenzo Grifo represented him as captain.
