Joris, you are a “historian” of AS Bron-Terraillon La Perle. Do we assume that Karim Benzema’s Ballon d’Or has satisfied the entire club?
Yes of course. It is the consecration and success of a young man from the neighborhood and the club. This highlights an entire associative project in which volunteer educators work daily to supervise young people and allow them to discover and live their passion for football.
What was the atmosphere at the club last Monday night?
It was amazing. We have never had so many people at the club with more than 280 people who gathered in our premises and in our club house to experience the event. There were cameras and reporters in every corner and in every locker room.

SCBT seems to have taken a turn for the last few seasons. To explain ?
It is a desire of several people who have mobilized to relaunch the project and who have combined their skills to stimulate a new dynamic. The club is developing a project that revolves around three dimensions: sports, social and educational. With over 450 members including 300 young people present in the club, the Sporting Club Bron Terraillon not only has a sporting vocation, but also has an educational and social role. As educators, the sometimes irrational passion for football allows us not only to unite but also to transmit beautiful values.
How can Karim Benzema’s distinction help?
It sheds some light on our club in an exceptional way. As our president said on Monday evening, “for a few hours the SCBT was also at the center of the football planet”. Karim’s distinction enhances our action and gives meaning to our commitment. We took the opportunity to deploy a huge sheet with the image of Karim but where there are also Hamza Rafia and Fares Chaibi, who also play professionally and who come from the club. It is simply a matter of great pride for everyone. All this light allows us to speak well of a club that has not always had a good image. Last week we finished a street art fresco representing Karim and his Golden Ball. And already all the children in the club want to photograph themselves in front of them.

A quick word about your leisure section… who has been one of the club’s jewels in the last few seasons?
The leisure team is also part of the club’s desire to open up to the outside and other practices. This team has existed for more than 15 years and there is a very warm atmosphere. We also won the Rhone Cup a few years ago. Compared to the club, it is a heterogeneous team that brings together business leaders, educators and players from the neighborhood. The coach is Bernard Revel, a symbol because he is the dean of the club. A continuous presence of 40 years at the SCBT. For example, we can do the new with the old (laughs).
