SC Braga and Boavista Face Off in a Crucial Battle for League Position

After defeats in the League (with Farense) and in the Champions League (with Nápoles), Minho, currently eighth in the League, want to quickly climb the rankings, but ahead they will have the sensational team, Boavista, who came in as leader in the 6th round. th journey

The fight for leadership takes place this Sunday (8.30pm) at Pedreira de Bragawhere a group of warriors live who, despite being injured by falls in the most recent battles, feel that it is time to change the needle and, in that sense, nothing better than a high level combat against the Good view de Petit, commander of a bold panther who, tiptoeing, with humility and without much fuss and despite experiencing the drama of overdue salaries, entered the 6th day leading the Liga.

Currently eighth in the League, Artur Jorge’s team from Braga have just seven points, due to victories in the 2nd and 4th rounds, with the red bottom team Chaves (4-2) and the recently promoted Moreirense (3-2), and the draw with Sporting (1-1).

In the remaining two duels, two defeats, the last against Farense (1-3) team against which Artur Jorge bet on saving some figures in view of the meeting of Champions League with the Italians… It went wrong. The other defeat was against Famalicão (1-2).

Looking at the history of clashes, let’s say that the records won’t leave Braga’s fans with a big smile either. In fact, in the last 10 duels between the two teams, Boavista won four (one of them at Pedreira, in June 2020, by 2-1, against just three victories for SC Braga. There were also three draws.

SC BRAGA

Return to the League, certainly marked by the final moments of the Champions League match with the Napleswhen it even reached 1-1 by Hoar, but, shortly afterwards, he saw Diakaté score in his own goal, closing the defeat at 1-2. Worse: in the immediately previous duel, in the 5th round of the League, the SC Braga was defeated by Farenseby 1-3, confirming the bad start in defensive terms of the Minho warriors in the 2023/2024 League.

Artur Jorge, coach of SC Braga

After all, ten goals have been conceded in just five matches, something that hadn’t been seen in 38 years: only at the start of 1985/1986, with Henrique Calisto as coach, did Braga have more (11).

The Warriors conceded goals in all five rounds of the 2023/2024 League: one with the Sportingtwo with Famalicão, Chaves e Moreirense and three in the aforementioned last journey with the Farense.

Only Chaves (17), Estoril (15), Portimonense (12) e Gil Vicente (11) have scored the most goals so far and only the Star of Amadora, in addition to the SC Braga of Artur Jorge, has not yet had any game with his own immaculate goal.

Coach Artur Jorge’s preview: «I’m the first to be dissatisfied with the fact that we lost two games, but it doesn’t make me feel discouraged about what the team can achieve. We have to be consistent, not only in our performances, but also in our support, in the support we have to have, in the project we have ahead of us. And some serenity and patience is required. Are we satisfied with the moment? No! We can do better, yes, but we have to be consistent. We’re going to face a good team. I have enjoyed watching Boavista. And I believe that the result of the first game [vitória sobre o Benfica] It gives you a boost that allows you to go first.”

Figure: Ricardo Horta. He has not yet emerged to his full potential this season, although, taking all competitions together – and the European journey is already long with four games before the group stage –, the Portuguese international has 2 goals and 6 assists in 9 matches in 2023 /2024. After two consecutive defeats by SC Braga, the game against Boavista could well be their rebirth…

GOOD VIEW

Petit took it again Good view in 2021/2022 in a difficult moment and left him in 12th; last season he was 9th, in the current one… he reached the 6th round in first place, with the same 13 points of Sporting e FC Porto (which, however, and provisionally, isolated itself at the top, with 16, after victory this Saturday with the Gil Vicente).

The victory against Benfica (3-2) in the first round certainly helped a lot to psychologically reinforce a group of players who, game after game, demonstrate quality and a spirit of sacrifice like few others – even more so when it is public that Bessa lives the drama of late wages.

Three more victories followed, two by high numbers (4-1, against Portimonense and Chaves) and just one draw, with the Pious House (1-1).

In the last round, against the Trás-os-Montes team (in the aforementioned 4-1), after 23 minutes, the Panthers were already winning 4-0. Petit admits that there was some relaxation afterwards, or dazzlement: «How long had they reached half-time leading 4-0? Maybe none. It helps us grow.”

Note also for the attack that lives in Bessa: 14 goals scored, a mark achieved this Saturday by Gil Vicentedue to the accurate shot in the defeat at Dragão (1-2).

Coach Petit’s preview: «If we are the target to shoot down because we are in first? No! I do believe that opponents look at us with more respect for what we are doing at this good start to the season. Now, in defense of leadership, we have to have the humility to want to continue being the team we have been. We know this is a marathon of meetings and we want to collect as many points as possible. We always discuss each game to achieve victory.”

Figure: Bozeník . He is the best scorer in the League, leader of the Bola de Prata, with 5 goals scored, which makes him, more than just a member of Boavista, one of the main players of the current season in Portugal. The 23-year-old Slovak forward is unstoppable and has added 2 assists to 5 successful shots in the first five rounds of the championship. Remember that he scored twice against Benfica (3-2) and Chaves (4-1), having scored the other against Portimonense (4-1).
