A citizen of Belarus collected data on the situation on the Ukrainian border and its security, as well as dirt on Ukrainian border guards.
Ukrainian counterintelligence has exposed and stopped the spy activities of a Belarusian KGB agent in the Volyn region. This was announced on Wednesday, March 24, by the SBU press service.
“The counterintelligence of the SBU on the territory of the Volyn region exposed and stopped intelligence activities to the detriment of the state security of our country of a citizen of the Republic of Belarus. It was established that he was recruited by the KGB RB and purposefully routed to the territory of our state to perform intelligence tasks and organize other illegal activities,” in the message.
The SBU said that the agent of the foreign intelligence service was given the task of collecting up-to-date information on:
-
situations in the borderlands;
-
the state of security of the state border of Ukraine;
-
the order of its protection;
-
technical equipment, the number of personnel involved in the State Border Service of Ukraine;
-
characterizing and compromising data on border guards and customs officers, etc.
“For this purpose, the agent of the KGB RB tried to involve in confidential cooperation the military personnel of the State Border Service of Ukraine from among the secret carriers,” the message says.
In addition to receiving intelligence information, according to the SBU, “the curators demanded that the agent establish channels for the transfer of weapons and dual-use goods across the state border.”
“The data obtained by the SBU counterintelligence show that this activity, among other things, was aimed at organizing provocations and creating information reasons for accusing Ukraine of allegedly supplying weapons to destabilize the internal political situation in the Republic of Belarus,” the special service added.
Now the citizen of Belarus has been announced on suspicion of committing a crime under the article on espionage.
