The special services demand that the guarantors of the life and health of Ukrainian prisoners of war immediately respond to the crime.
The Security Service of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights issued a joint statement regarding massacre of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Yelenovka in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region
According to the statement, immediately after the explosion in Yelenovka, Russia accused Ukraine of shelling a penal colony using American weapons and killing Ukrainian soldiers.
“The bombing is a cynical terrorist act by the Russian Federation, a military provocation and a classic false flag operation, the purpose of which is to cover up war crimes, discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine, disrupt the supply of Western weapons and increase social tension in Ukrainian society,” the statement says.

The Ukrainian side emphasizes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine strike exclusively at Russian military facilities: warehouses with fuel, weapons and ammunition, command posts, military infrastructure facilities.
“The Ukrainian army has enough means to identify targets, including space reconnaissance systems. Ukraine did not carry out rocket and artillery attacks on the town of Yelenovka,” the statement said.
It is noted that on May 16, with the mediation of the UN and the ICRC, the process of evacuating the defenders of Mariupol from the territory of the Azovstal plant, which for a long time was surrounded and under attack by Russian troops, began. The format of the evacuation provided for the establishment of a regime of silence and the surrender of Ukrainian military personnel, followed by an exchange under the guarantees of the UN and the ICRC. This format was chosen and approved by the defenders of Mariupol, who took part in the negotiations.
On June 29, the first of the planned exchanges of prisoners of war took place, as a result of which 144 defenders returned to Ukraine, including 95 defenders of Azovstal.
The key condition for the chosen format was the obligations of the Russian side to international organizations to preserve the life and health of Ukrainian defenders. This guarantee was cynically violated, the statement says.
“On the night of July 29, an organized murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war took place on the territory of the former correctional colony in the town of Yelenovka. Many documented evidence points to the planned nature of this crime and its commission by the Russian side: in particular, the deliberate transfer of fighters to a new building shortly before the explosion, an analysis of the nature of the damage and the movement of the blast wave, the interception of telephone conversations of militants, the absence of shelling in the indicated place, etc. All this leaves no doubt: the explosion in Yelenovka was a Russian terrorist act and a gross violation of international agreements,” the statement emphasizes.
Thus, the SBU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Ombudsman demand from the UN and the ICRC, which acted as guarantors of the life and health of Ukrainian prisoners of war, to immediately respond to the terrorist act committed by Russia.

They also demand to immediately send representatives of the UN, the ICRC, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights and representatives of the Joint Center for the search and release of prisoners to the territory of the colony in the village of Yelenovka in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region for the purpose of an inspection mission.
Elena’s crime: what is known about the murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the colony
As UNIAN reported, on Friday, July 29, pro-Russian militants announced deaths of 50 Ukrainian soldiers as a result of a strike on the Yelenovskaya colony.
Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, reported that residents of the occupied Elenovki informed about the work of Russian “Grads” in the colony where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept.
Subsequently, a version was put forward that the building of the colony in Yelenovka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept, could blow up from the inside.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense informed that the explosions took place on the territory of the industrial zone in a new building, which was supposed to be specially equipped for the detention of prisoners taken out of Azovstal.
“The equipment of the building ended 2 days ago, after which some of the detained Ukrainian defenders were transferred to it,” the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense notes.
Azov leader Andrey Beletsky announced a “hunt” for each criminal involved in the murder of captured “Azov” in Yelenovka.
