It is the final version of the DBS that 007 drove in the last films of the saga, of which Daniel Craig already said goodbye. A beastly sports car.
A farewell with honors will give Aston Martin to the most recent generation of the DBS, the grand tourer that knew how to be its flagship since it saw the light of day in 2018 and that today reaches the end of its production: it was confirmed the launch of an even more radical and powerful limited edition, the DBS Ultimate 770which once it steps on the street will become the most powerful car ever mass-produced by the British brand.
It is a throw of only 499 units those that will go on sale Aston Martin DBS Ultimate 770; 300 of them will do so in a coupe body, and the remaining 199 in a convertible format –or Volante, as the brand calls this variant–.
Aston Martin is the brand par excellence of James Bond. Ever since Sean Connery drove a DB5 in Goldfinger, from 1964, these British cars were as important in the secret agent movies as the women he used to conquer. In fact, the DB5 has been something of a cliché for 007: although he drove the latest generation cars, he was always accompanied by the faithful model of the 60s.
The DBS was the car that was with James Bond in the last installments of the saga, including the one that marked Daniel Craig’s farewell, No Time to Die. Now, Aston Martin anticipates the farewell of that super sports car.
How the Aston Martin DBS says goodbye
Its name anticipates it: the vehicle delivers 770 hp, and it does so thanks to its 5.2-liter V12 biturbo engine which also accuses a torque of 900 Nm between 1,800 and 5,000 rpm. Such numbers mean an improvement compared to the conventional DBS -the block of the same displacement of the current DBS Superleggera delivers 725 CV-, and are the product of hard work in the development stage to, for example, be able to increase 7% of the pressure turbo, among other mechanical changes.
It will be associated with an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, and although official data on its acceleration capacity remain to be known, Aston Martin confirmed that its maximum speed will exceed 320 kilometers per hour. Not bad for a car that weighs 1,945 kilos.
“When a generation of an iconic model reaches the end of its production run, it is important to commemorate it in a special way,” said Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Roberto Fedeli. And he highlighted: “In the case of the DBS 770 Ultimate, we have spared no effort to ensure that the final version is the best in every respect. Not only is it the fastest and most powerful DBS in our historythanks to a complete set of improvements to the transmission, steering, suspension and underbody structure; It’s also the best for driving.”.
For this reason, those of the engine are not the only novelties that this car presents: there are also improvements in the steering thanks to a new solid column, a more rigid chassis, 410 mm carbon disc brakes on the front axle and 360 on the rear. rear and adaptive suspension calibrated to, according to the brand, guarantee “control and efficiency without compromising ride quality.”
Calling it “something so raw and so beautiful it’s almost intimidating to look at,” Aston Martin Creative Director Marek Reichman said: “The DBS has always been at the top of our production model range, and now we are infusing the DBS 770 Ultimate with even more power, more technology and more purity of performance, all with greater sophistication and taste, and in the most thoughtful way.”
Thus, on an aesthetic level, the air vents on the hood and on the front splitter stand out on the front to improve the cooling of its mechanics. Too carbon fiber abounds in its bodyworkbe it a coupe or a convertible, the same material as the new winglets at the rear, which also features a diffuser exclusively designed for this model.
They finish outlining the bearing of this Aston Martin with its 21-inch wheels, reminiscent of those used by the Valkyrie. They mount 265/35 R21 tires on the front axle and 305/30 R21 on the rear, and they can leave the factory in three different finishes: Satin Silver -brighter-, Satin Black -sportier- or Satin Black Diamond Turned -perhaps more sophisticated–.
Inside, as expected, the DBS 770 Ultimate is not far behind: carbon fiber is observed on plates and on the steering wheel paddlesbut its seats stand out above all things, which are standard upholstered in a semi-aniline and alcantara finish but can also be changed for a bucket-type variant made of, once again, carbon fiber.
And of course, as is the tradition of a brand like Aston Martin, these are not the only alternatives for customers: on the contrary, the brand makes available an office specially dedicated to trying to make the requests of future owners come true. of finishes and accessories.
With or without customizations, the Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate will go into production sometime in the first quarter of the year, with the aim of making the first deliveries in the course of the boreal summer. The price is unknown, but at this point it is the least of it: they no longer had a single unsold unit left.
