Saxony Launches State Program to Support Language Education in Day Care Centers

Saxony is launching a state program for language education in day care centers. A total of 10.7 million euros are available for this and next year, the Ministry of Education announced on Monday. The project is intended to replace the federal program “Language Kitas”, which ended on June 30th.

“The federal government simply buried the language day-care centers and thus said goodbye to a reliable policy for disadvantaged children. Now we are stepping in as a state, »emphasized Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU). Language education for children with special needs lays the foundation for later academic and professional success. “What we are missing out on in daycare will cost us double or triple tomorrow at school.”

The state program supplements the funding guideline for improving the quality and participation in child day care. This means that a whole range of measures can be funded retroactively to January 1, 2023.

For example, the release of specialists for practical instruction in day-care centers is supported. Grants can also be made for the qualification and further training of staff. According to the ministry, a total of around 45 million euros is now available for 2023 and 2024. The state program is part of this overall financial package.
