Saxony Increases School Assistants to Support Teachers and Students

Dresden (dpa/sn) – The countdown is on: On Friday, more than half a million schoolchildren in Saxony will receive their certificates and then start their summer holidays. Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU) thanked the teachers for their work and announced that the number of school assistants would be increased from 576 to 751. This should bring relief so that teachers can concentrate more on their actual work – teaching.

“Our teachers are not only imparters of knowledge, but also role models, mentors and supporters for their students,” emphasized Piwarz on Wednesday. He admitted that the challenges for them had increased in recent years with Corona, the war in Ukraine and the shortage of teachers.

Anyone who experiences a nasty surprise on the day of the report can get help by telephone from professionals at the State Office for Schools and Education – not just students, but parents too. “Nobody should start the summer break with a bad feeling,” explained Piwarz. The contact persons on the hotline should encourage children and show them how they can turn things around in the new school year. The hotlines are on Friday (July 7) from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., it said.
