In Saxony, farmers are planning extensive protest actions to draw attention to their demands. The plan is to block 95 percent of all highway entrances in the state next Monday. This measure, which is organized by the farmers’ association “Land creates connection”, is scheduled to take place between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m., as spokesman Robert Erdmann announced. The aim of the protests is to call on the federal government to fully maintain subsidies for agricultural diesel.
At the same time, Erdmann emphasized that the association clearly distances itself from the actions of the right-wing extremist group “Free Saxony”, which wants to appear in the context of the farmers’ protests. The President of the State Farmers’ Association, Torsten Krawczyk, commented on these developments on MDR AKTUELL and described it as regrettable if farmers’ events were exploited by right-wing extremist forces. Nevertheless, the economic concerns of farmers are at the forefront of the protests.
Farmers face economic challenges that could be exacerbated by possible cuts in agricultural diesel subsidies. The protest actions should therefore send a clear signal to politicians that farmers’ concerns must be taken seriously. At the same time, the organizers are keen to ensure that the protests focus exclusively on agricultural policy issues and are not misused for other political purposes.
