In Dresden, parts of the Carola Bridge have collapsed and other parts are in danger of collapsing. For this reason, many streets, footpaths, cycle paths and the waterway have been closed. In addition, several tram lines are affected. Road users must expect considerable disruption.

The entire area around the Carola Bridge, including the Elbe federal waterway, the Elbe cycle path and the terrace bank, will remain completely closed until further notice. Road users must expect significant disruptions. The collapse means that an important transport connection, the B170 over the Elbe, has been lost.

Diversions via Albertbrücke and Wilsdruffer Straße

  • According to the city of Dresden, car traffic will be diverted via the Albert Bridge.
  • There are no plans to open the Augustus Bridge, which can only be used by public transport.
  • As in the event of flooding, the diversion for the closed Terrassenufer will take place via Wilsdruffer Straße.

Danger to life on and under the bridge

Trams affected by diversions

As the Dresden public transport company announced, Carolaplatz and Albertstraße can be reopened to trams. This means a lot of trams on the Augustus Bridge. The tram diversions have changed again. following Tram lines are currently affected:

  • The lines 3 and 7 will be diverted via Prager Straße, Postplatz and Augustusbrücke to Carolaplatz.
  • The line 8 is running again according to schedule.

No scheduled service with “White Fleet”

Because of the partial collapse, no shipping traffic is possible in the bridge area in the Elbe. “Those who don’t have to go through there can sail,” said a spokesman for the Dresden Water and Shipping Authority. The “White Fleet” canceled all of its scheduled trips for Wednesday. “We are trying to carry out planned charter trips and divert them to other ships,” said a spokesman for the company.
