Public prosecutor Hans-Jürgen Neufang told MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT that the airbag control unit is supposed to provide information about how fast the car was actually traveling at the time of the accident.
According to Neufang, the device is being evaluated by the manufacturer. The public prosecutor’s office expects a result in six to eight weeks.
The accident occurred on country road 204 between Naumburg and Schönburg. The vehicle came off the road in a curve and crashed down a slope.

Two women and a man aged 19 and 21 were killed in the accident at the beginning of July. The 43-year-old driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. Shortly after the accident, investigations were launched against him on suspicion of negligent homicide, among other things.
The occupants of the vehicle were on their way back from the Naumburg Cherry Festival. According to the police, the car came off the road on a bend at around 2:15 a.m., crashed down a slope and collided with a tree. The three fatalities were sitting in the back seat and were trapped. The 18-year-old passenger and the 43-year-old driver of the car were slightly injured in the accident.
