Saxon Switzerland: Over 100 violations of the boofen ban

Mountaineers and climbers are no longer allowed to boogo without restrictions in Saxon Switzerland – i.e. spend the night outdoors. Not everyone followed the rules this year.

Bad Schandau. This year, the administration in the Saxon Switzerland National Park registered more than 100 violations of the ban on spending the night in the open air – so-called boofen.

Overall, the number of overnight stays has decreased significantly, the national park announced on Friday. The temporary ban was imposed to protect nature and wildlife. The regulation is limited until 2025. Until then, their effectiveness should be checked.

From February 1st to June 15th, boofing is not permitted in the national park. During the rest of the year, overnight stays are permitted at 58 official free overnight accommodations, but only for climbers and mountaineers. Wild camping is forbidden all year round anyway.

“I am grateful that the new rules were respected by most visitors. It was much quieter in the national park at night,” explained director Uwe Borrmeister. However, the 100 violations in which administrative offense proceedings were initiated were clearly too many. It is being considered how better information can be provided about the regulation.
