The Saxon AfD wants to exclude state parliament member Roland Ulbrich from its ranks. Ulbrich had “seriously violated party principles,” the AfD parliamentary group said on Monday. Expulsion from the state parliamentary group should take place at the next parliamentary group meeting. In addition, the state executive board, in coordination with the federal leadership, is applying for a party exclusion procedure.
Dresden/Leipzig – When asked, the AfD did not comment on the exact background to this expulsion. They said they were forced to act. “The AfD stands firmly on the basis of the free, democratic basic order. Anyone who expresses themselves in an extremist manner – regardless of whether they are right-wing or left-wing extremist – is doing massive damage to the AfD,” said General Secretary Jan Zwerg.
Ulbrich was considered a right-winger in the AfD and was also controversial within the party. The lawyer comes from Düsseldorf and, according to the state parliament, lives in Leipzig. He has also been a member of the city council there since 2019. dpa
