Walsrode / Verden – The six defendants from the Heidekreis are said to have made more booty than expected, and they have to answer two criminal cases at the Verden district court. In the indictments, the public prosecutor’s office put the value of the stolen jewelry from a burglary in Bad Fallingbostel at 25,000 euros. The 66-year-old landlord spoke in his testimony of around 85,000 euros. His insurance paid him around 60,000 euros. In addition, the perpetrators had caused property damage of around 3,000 euros.

On the night of January 5th, when the couple was abroad, the perpetrators entered the house through the roof. The police later found out that the bulbs for the exterior lighting had been turned out to prevent the motion detectors from turning them on.

One of the perpetrators reached the roof through a bay window. “15, 16 roof tiles were covered and neatly piled up,” reported the self-employed businessman. A 40 by 50 centimeter opening was cut into the rafters and the interior cladding.

Most of the jewelry was left unlocked in the bathroom. It is believed that the perpetrators wanted to flee after an acoustic alarm was triggered. All doors were locked. Therefore, the pane of a patio door was smashed. According to the police, a neighborhood survey had shown that several neighbors noticed the alarm system that had been triggered, but had taken it to be a false alarm. Such had happened more often. The rattling of windows, lights in the house and a car on a path behind the house were also noticed by local residents, but no one alerted the police.

The victims returned prematurely. Apart from jewelry and high-quality belts, nothing was stolen, the 66-year-old reported. “The gentlemen were so nice and otherwise left no damage.” When asked, he explained that the act had left no psychological consequences on his wife or himself.

On the recordings from surveillance cameras, perpetrators masked with balaclavas could be seen who are said to have walked around the house. Three days later, a saw and buildup of plasterboard was discovered in the trunk of the 32-year-old defendant from Walsrode. A mass product, but one that was built into the roof.

The defendants are said to have committed 19 crimes, burglaries and robbery, with varying degrees of participation. Because juvenile criminal law comes under consideration for a 20-year-old, he has to answer in a different process. All six defendants have remained silent so far. wb
