The bet is total. A premiere on more than 300 screens in 79 cities in the country for the return of Jigsaw in Saw X, the game of fear.
On the 20th anniversary of one of the highest-grossing horror sagas of all time, the macabre games return with a more sadistic John Kramer than ever, accompanied by the chilling Billy, his sinister torture machines, his traumas and new machinations against their victims.
Starring Tobin Bell (Saw; Jigsaw), Shawnee Smith (Saw I to VI), Steven Brand (Criminal; Teen Wolf) and Synnøve Macody Lund (Black Widows), Saw occurred between the first two films, when John travels to Mexico to undergo a treatment that promises a cure for his illness.

Back to terror
Shawnee Smith, who plays Amanda Young in the horror film Saw X, spoke about her return to the saga.
What was it like returning to the story of this horror saga?
It’s super fun to be able to go back to the beginning and be in the hands of the creators, writers and fans. I mean, anything can happen here. In the world of music, even, it is crazy to do this thing of returning to a point 15 years later. But it’s powerful, the story is compelling, and the fans are now Saw fans, on a higher level.
Where is the emotion in all this?
The most exciting thing is for the fans, because you have both John and Amanda, the male and female Jigsaw, who work like a puzzle and it’s super interesting. Everyone dies in the end and you already know it, so can you imagine how many flashbacks you can have? Someone had the great idea to go back to this time in history and everything feels unreal.

I play Amanda Young and I like her, because she is very smart. She was hurt and John Kramer brought her back to life, she was something like a doll that had been put out, that’s why she loves him deeply. And that amazing thing is also terrifying and torture for someone like Amanda.
What is the story about in this new installment?
John arrives in Mexico City in search of cancer treatment. An experimental treatment, which has not been approved by the FDA, but that someone like John Kramer is willing to try, he is convinced and tries it. But at some point he realizes that he has been deceived and that is a very difficult thing for someone like John Kramer to accept. His hope is shattered and this clouds her vision of him a little.
The game was beautiful, it was outrageously convincing, but it was also devastating for him and it’s something that really bothers Amanda, because she loves John very much and seeing him hurt like that and so vulnerable, awakens a battle cry in her, but at the same time, He cannot abandon John’s philosophy that every human being deserves a chance and he believes that souls must be saved, that is his philosophy, which is why he does all this. So he decides that she should continue this work of his. He wouldn’t trust her with this task if he didn’t think she could do it. So this is bigger than anger, so you realize that even though there is no redemption, everyone deserves a chance. And that’s how it all rolls.
And about the character of John Kramer played by Tobin Bell?
Tobin Bell plays John Kramer and that’s the luckiest thing that happened to the Saw franchise. From day one he put his body on the ground and was meticulous. He’s a researcher, he studies everything about the work he does, but then he pauses hard and insists on being the body on the ground in the first part. I still don’t know exactly how they came up with him, but thank God they did, he’s meant to be Jigsaw, he’s largely responsible for the longevity of this franchise.

How was working with director Kevin Greutert?
Kevin G is directing this movie and it’s been a lot of fun working with him. They couldn’t have hired a better director because he knows every detail of Saw. I can’t imagine everything this man has to take into account in his head, it’s like 18 years of details, which he learned by editing and editing. And while he’s filming he’s always thinking about the editing, about the final product, so he’s very meticulous.
How has your reunion been with Amanda Young’s fans?
So many years have passed and now going to conventions and events and meeting Amanda’s fans, who are from different generations… it’s fantastic. I just started calling them last year, Amanda’s Tribe, because they’re so similar. They are all very intelligent, friendly and very similar, like tender, but strong and they connect with each other. I learned to love them very much and to understand them, and to love Amanda like she had never thought.
I never imagined that I would return to the world of Saw 18 years later, but I discovered that it is like singing a love song for these young people, including the young woman I play. But at the same time it feels like such an unreal opportunity that it’s best left to the world of Saw.
