Saw: Spiral – influenced by David Fincher’s film Seven

In an interview with Empire Director Darren Lynn Bousman revealed that Saw: Spiral, the reboot of the Saw franchis, from David Fincher’s film seven had been influenced.

Chris Rock, who plays the lead role in Detective Banks, would have drawn inspiration from Fincher’s 1995 thriller, according to Bousman.

“Chris came up with a thriller concept. He suggested this very polished, dense idea. We wanted it to be a lot more like seven feels. But it has so many connections to the myth of Saw.”

This should also change the atmosphere in Saw: Spiral. Rock’s comedy background also has an influence, but Bousman already does Saw II, III and IV staged, noted that the gore and violence elements have been turned down a bit.

“I was younger. Gore and violence were the gimmick, I think. Gore and violence are no longer a gimmick – it’s just a story. This is more about character, tension and fear.”

The Saw series puts brutal and mean traps in the foreground. Some of the prisoners have to saw off their feet, cut out their own eyes with a scalpel or have their hands burned. In addition, the films tell a multi-linked story about the serial killer Jigsaw, who designed the diabolical machines and puzzles.

The US theatrical release is for Saw: Spiral still scheduled for May 15th.
