Monday night became a lawyer Tor Kjærvik (70) shot and killed at Røa in Oslo.

There is little evidence of what happened in the quiet neighborhood on Tuesday morning. The silence is only broken by children’s laughter from the kindergarten a few tens of meters away.

The only thing that refers to the drama that took place on Monday night is the chipboard that covers the front door of Tor Kjærvik’s home, and a police tape around the terrace at the back of the apartment.

Liv Thorvaldsen lives in the neighborhood herself, and was visiting her daughter some apartments beyond Monday night.

They had finished watching Dagsrevyen, and she went to the window to look at the view.

There she sees Tor Kjærvik coming walking alone.

– The time was probably between 20:10 and 20:30. He came walking up from the garage, walked over to the door and locked himself in, she explains.

Thorvaldsen says that he seemed calm, and that there was nothing about his behavior she reacted to. There were still some details that stuck.

– He went up to the door, looked down into the yellow garbage bag to the right of the entrance, and looked a little over his shoulder before unlocking it.

She has lived here for 40 years, and although she does not want to say she knew Kjærvik, they greeted each other when they met.

– I was perhaps the last to see him, says Thorvaldsen.

She does not know what happened after he entered.

– I went home to mine, and from there I have no view down. I heard nothing either. My daughter heard something and went out on the terrace. Then she saw that several neighbors had gone out to see, but she did not think about it anymore, Thorvaldsen says.

Just after 9 pm on Monday night, the police received reports of a shot at the lawyer’s home on Røa in Oslo. It was first reported that a person was injured, but at 10.30 pm it was confirmed that a man was dead.

It was only when the other daughter who lives in Asker sent a message late Wednesday that Liv Thorvaldsen understood what had happened.

– We were shocked that something like that could happen, in this neighborhood and with such a peaceful man. It’s tragic.

According to what VG is informed, the accused, an ethnic Norwegian man in his 30s, arrested near the scene shortly afterwards. A police patrol quickly arrived at the scene. As far as VG knows, a pistol is attached to the incident. A suspected murder weapon has been seized, the police confirm.

VG is informed that the accused has connected with the act, and that this must have happened in connection with the arrest. He is scheduled to be questioned on Tuesday.

Several law colleagues VG has spoken to is in mourning after the incident.

Kjærvik turned 70 less than a month ago, and according to VG’s information, he now had plans to reduce his work.
