Kendal –
The smoked fish business, like what some people in Gempolsewu Village, Kendal are doing, is quite lucrative. Processed fish can bring coffers of money and even reach millions per day.
It was Supinah (42) one of the residents who took part in tasting the savory benefits of this smoked fish business. In a day he claimed to be able to pocket a turnover of up to Rp 1 million.
“One day sometimes (gets) IDR 1 million, sometimes IDR 900 thousand, depending on the fish,” he told the detikcom team, Sunday (10/10/2021).
Supinah said the capital needed to start a smoked fish business is not expensive. In starting a business that he has been in for the last 5 years, he uses an initial capital of Rp. 40 thousand which is used to buy fresh fish from fishermen who go to sea.
“From Rp. 40 thousand, I got 1 bucket of fish. Then I managed to get Rp. 150 thousand. I managed again to get Rp. 275 thousand, I saved little by little to make a smoked fish production site,” he said.
The fish is then grilled on the wood for 1 to 2 minutes, without using any seasonings. This process he worked from the afternoon until 9 pm.
Supinah said that in a day she usually sells 3 baskets of smoked fish. The types of fish include banyar fish, gilikan, and kuniran.
“The price of grilled (smoked) fish is Rp. 10 thousand for the big one, the small one is Rp. 5 thousand. For 1 kg of salted fish, it is Rp. 40 thousand, there are Rp. 25 thousand and Rp. 15 thousand,” he said.
Supinah said she had worked as a smoked fish seller. Then he decided to open a small business. His business is growing and now has 2 workers to help him in the production house.
“First I sell around using bicycles. Travel to villages. Then I hang out at the market. In the market I rent, I don’t have my own stall. Departs at half past 5 in the morning,” he said.

Although fortunately it is quite tempting, Supinah does not deny that the smoked fish business has also experienced ups and downs. During the pandemic, he continued, sales of smoked fish declined.
“During the pandemic, it was difficult for me to sell, the fish was left over, so it was thrown away. The capital is running out. Now it’s starting to get better,” he said.
Therefore, he decided to apply for an ultra micro loan (UMi) of Rp. 1 million to Bank BRI to increase business capital. This UMi loan is considered safer than having to apply for a daily loan. In addition, the disbursement process is also easy and fast.
“Alhamdulillah, it helps if I need money in a hurry. The process is easy. It’s not complicated. At least it’s just a family letter (family card) and an ID card. Quick, direct, at least wait 2 days,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of BRI Unit Gempolsewu, Ayatullah al Burhani explained, the ultra micro loan program or UMi is a program that has only been running since April 2021. Meanwhile, Gempolsewu was chosen as a pilot project at the BRI Semarang Regional Office.
He said, UMi loans with a maximum ceiling of Rp. 10 million would be channeled through BRIlink agents (UMi partners) under the coordination of the Mantri. The loan can be accessed by the community or cluster members who need urgent funds.
The selection of agents or UMi partners takes into account the proximity of agents to the community so that loan distribution is more targeted and effective.
“I hope that in the future there will be other UMi agents, assisted by my mantri so that they can penetrate all levels of society, can meet the needs of the community from the cluster members. So that they can improve their welfare so that later the regional economy will lift and Gempolsewu will become a pioneer village. Not only for the regions. here, but the products can go to other regions and go international,” he concluded.
detikcom together with BRI held the Ultra Micro Synergy program in Bandar Lampung and Semarang to monitor efforts to increase public financial inclusion through the synergy of BRI, Pegadaian, and PNM in Ultra Micro Holding. Holding Ultra Micro seeks to support strong and sustainable economic growth to increase MSMEs in the country. For more complete information, follow the news on https://sinergiultramikro.detik.com/.
