On Thursday, Vinni’s municipal council elected Erki Savisaare, a member of the center party, as mayor and Evelin Poolametsa, member of the Estonian Conservative People’s Party (EKRE), as council chairman, Virumaa Teataja writes.
Erki Savisaar was the only candidate for the post of mayor. He was supported by 14 council members.
Erki Savisaar, the son of the well-known politician Edgar Savisaar, an honorary citizen of Vinni municipality, has been a member of the 13th and 14th members of the Riigikogu and held the position of Minister of the Environment from the fall of 2021 to the summer of 2022.
One candidate was also nominated for the chairmanship of the council – Evelin Poolamets (EKRE), who is also a member of the Riigikogu. In the 17-member council, 15 MPs supported him as chairman, while one MP was absent from the session.
