“Responsible saving in terms of culture is possible,” said Bern’s mayor Alec von Graffenried (GFL), head of the culture department, on Thursday in the budget debate. And so he and his red-green councilor presented a few chunks to the city parliament. The city gallery, for example, should receive fewer subsidies. But with 47 to 28 votes, the city council has clearly spoken out in favor of the continued operation of the art institution run by the city. “I would never have expected so much sympathy for the gallery,” said the Stapi.
