The year 2023 is a special year that will mark a turning point in the history of the Bladier mill. The municipality had undertaken to intervene on this emblematic monument of local heritage.
This long process began in 2019 with the acquisition of the plot on which the mill stands. It continued with annual maintenance and awareness actions with guided tours. The hour of the concretization of this will arrived, putting an end to the slow agony of the building.
Indeed, the City wished to call on the heritage architect Pierre-Jean Trabon for project management aimed at saving and securing the mill. This architect has expert experience of this kind of mission. In the Hérault, he carried out work on the Canal du Midi in Béziers, the Saint-Pierre cathedral and the faculty of Montpellier, as well as the Oppidum d’Ensérune and monuments in Pézenas and Saint-Thibéry.
The project management mission entrusted to it will consist of several phases: the publication of statements of the work, the historical synthesis of the construction, the sanitary condition with identification of structures and disorders, the balance sheet structure and the description of the evolutionary nature of the pathologies, and finally, the restoration project, including emergency interventions to guarantee the stability of the mill as well as an estimate of the work by lot and nature.
“The main objective is to allow, in the long term, to stop the destruction of the mill and to give again the possibility to the Bessanais to benefit in complete safety from this space, dedicated to nature, to the Hérault river and to the heritage”says one in town hall.
This project is supported by the heritage team of the Hérault-Méditerranée urban community, particularly by Laurent Félix and Denis Nepipvoda, by the Drac Occitanie as well as by the Hérault departmental council.
