The National Registry of Donors celebrates 20 years of its creation facilitating opportunities for those who require bone marrow transplantation. More than 3 thousand people in Jujuy are registered.
The Regional Hemotherapy Center (CRH) and the Jujuy Ablation and Implant Coordinating Center (CUCAIJUY), continue to strengthen joint actions to promote the National Registry of Bone Marrow Donors, stem cells or hematopoietic progenitor cells that this April 1 celebrates 20 years, the date on which National Bone Marrow Donor Day is commemorated.
The National Registry, made up of the sum of wills and solidarity, aims to respond to patients with an indication for bone marrow transplantation, so adding voluntary donors allows expanding opportunities for people from the country and the world.
What is bone marrow?
It is a tissue found in the bones of the body and is essential for human life. There are the stem cells or hematopoietic progenitor cells from which the determining white blood cells for the immune system are produced, the red blood cells that are essential for the transport of oxygen to the rest of the tissues and the platelets that are involved in coagulation.
When diseases that affect the blood such as leukemia or lymphoma do not respond to the first line of chemotherapy treatment, bone marrow transplantation is indicated, depending on the case, which can improve the health condition or save life, and therefore the importance of Be a bone marrow donor.
Expanding the National Registry, interconnected with a worldwide genetic data bank, is extremely important since 75% of people with diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma cannot find a compatible donor for bone marrow transplantation in their own family group, therefore that it is decisive to go to unrelated and/or unrelated donors. The more bone marrow donors that can enroll, the better chance people with diseases have of finding a match.

For voluntary, free, free and supportive registration, any person between 18 and 40 years of age who is suitable for donating a unit of blood can register.
After the decision to join the National Registry, a blood sample from the person for genetic studies is sent to the Single Central National Institute for Ablation and Implant Coordination (INCUCAI).
Once incorporated, the person may or may not be contacted for a donation, since the central difficulty is achieving one hundred percent compatibility.

Schedule of activities
Under the motto “Health to the Marrow”, this Saturday, April 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon, a Caravan / walk / flag / will be held in the capital of Jujuy from Lavalle esq. 19 de Abril until pedestrian Belgrano, continuing then towards Necochea street.
