Savickis: The team is ready for battle and there is no evidence that we will not go to Minsk The news

Riga, October 26, LETA. The hockey players of the Riga “Dinamo” team of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) have recovered from the disease with Covid-19 and are going to go to the Belarusian capital Minsk to play a game against the local “Dinamo”, on Monday in a conversation with the news agency LETA Juris Savickis.

It has already been reported that Covid-19 has been confirmed in 13 people associated with Dinamo Riga after returning from Belarus.

Two days later, on October 19, Savickis stated in a conversation with LETA that he plans to return to Dinamo Square starting on October 24 or 25. Due to the quarantine, the “Dynamics” did not play two home games against the Moscow region “Vitjaz” and Magnitogorsk “Metallurg”, as well as away matches against Bob Hartley-led Omsk “Avangard” and Moscow’s “Dynamo”.

The last two games were moved to January last week, but talks are still ongoing with the Vitjaz and Metallurg teams. From October 28 to November 3, four more games are expected.

The field trip will start on Wednesday in Minsk, where a general strike began on Monday after the expiration of the term “popular ultimatum” proposed by Svetlana Tikhanovska. The strike is reportedly involving workers from the Grodno fertilizer company Azot, the Minsk Tractor Plant, the Minsk Tractor Plant and the Minsk Electrical Factory, as well as students from the Belarusian State University and the Belarusian State Medical University.

“So far, there is no evidence that we should not drive,” Savickis said on Monday. “The Minsk team has not told us anything, but everything can change. Today everything is fine and the team is ready for battle.”

Savickis emphasized that Dinamo staff is currently devoting a lot of energy to coordinating the game calendar with the opposing teams. Everyone has their own schedule, wishes and interests, but the negotiations take place in a friendly atmosphere.

After two outbreaks of Covid-19, more than 20 hockey players have contracted the virus in the team, which suggests that there will be a foreign term in the locker room of the quarantine “Dinamo” in the future.

“Maybe the future will be easier, but we will also take the person responsible for disinfection measures with us,” Savickis said, noting that it is still impossible to live in a complete “bubble”, so the virus has found a loophole through which the “dynamics” can sneak. “I think we follow a lot of security measures. Although we tried, we can’t live in a vacuum. Let’s take even stronger measures so that nothing like that happens again.”

Last week, KHL President Alexei Morozov again touched on the topic of housing foreign teams in Russia if the border is closed due to the spread of Covid-19. This is mostly due to the Helsinki “Jokerit” and the Riga team.

“Such a scenario is discussed in the mass media on a regular basis, but we have not considered this issue within the team,” Savickis revealed.

After Wednesday’s game in Minsk, the next stop for the “dynamics” will be in Chelyabinsk with “Traktor” (October 30), on November 1 in Ekaterinburg with “Avtomobilist” and on November 3 in Nursultan with “Baris”.

“Dinamo” with seven points in 13 games is the last place among 11 Western conference teams and is also the last in the whole KHL championship, as Gunārs Skvorcov’s Beijing “Red Cone Red Star” has scored two points more.

It has been previously reported that nine hockey players and two staff members were infected with Dinamo during the first case of Covid-19.

Last season, “Dinamo” took the penultimate place in the Western Conference and in the entire league, not qualifying for the Gagarin Cup for the sixth year in a row.
